Retail Centers

Being a rural area, the local retail centers are a mix of local, family-owned businesses and retail chains. The small family-owned stores, many of which have been in operation for 2 – 3 generations, provide a unique shopping experience that complements that found in chain retail outlets. The downtown shopping districts of Upper Sandusky and Carey have many buildings that date from the mid-19th century with their original facades and tin ceilings. More recently, Upper Sandusky has completed and Carey has in progress downtown streetscape projects that include installment of underground utility lines and the modernization of the sidewalks and streetlights.

Wyandot County is served by two Chambers of Commerce, one in Upper Sandusky  (www.uppersanduskychamber.com) and one in Carey (www.careychamber.com).   Both are active in their respective communities and together represent over 400 businesses. The Chambers coordinated downtown retail business activities and sponsor many community events including the July 4th Fireworks, the Winter Fantasy of Lights and the Wyandot County Visitors’ Bureau.

Although there are no retail shopping malls in Wyandot County, there are several intermediate size malls within 30-45 minutes drive (Tiffin, Findlay, Marion, Mansfield) as well as major large metropolitan malls within a 1-1 ½ hour drive (Polaris, Easton Town Center and Tuttle Crossing in Columbus and Levis Commons in Toledo).
